There may be a very high chance that you have seen the pictures of Cafe Yeonnamdong 223-14 on Instagram before. Cafe Yeonnamdong 223-14 was viral on various social media plat forms for its unique interior and soon became a hot spot for Instagrammable photos.
About Cafe Yeonnamdong 223-14
Cafe Yeonnamdong 223-14 was formerly named Cafe Yeonnamdong 239-20. The former cafe was very small and equipped with only a few tables. As the cafe was getting popular among youngsters, the owner shifted the cafe to the current place with a bigger space to accommodate the demand.
Cafe Yeonnamdong 223-14 is located in Yeonnam-dong, Hongdae. The cafe simply simply got its name after the address. The cafe is also known as๊ทธ๋ฆผ์นดํ Greem cafe, in which โGreemโ means drawings in Korean.
The owner got his inspiration for the interior design from the popular Korean drama โW โ Two Worldsโ by Lee Jong Suk and Han Hyo Joo, in which the characters are caught between the real world and the webtoon world.
This is how the exterior of Cafe Yeonnamdong 223-14 looks like. The cafe is located at the first floor and there is also a cartoon rooftop. We went to the cafe on a rainy day and the salon located on the second floor was having a construction so we could not manage to visit the rooftop. It was such a loss.
A small photo zone is set up at the entrance of Cafe Yeonnamdong 223-14.
Cartoon World in Real Life
As soon as I walked in the cafe, I felt like stepping into a cartoon world, or should I say a comic book? I was completely mesmerized. The interior of the Cafe Yeonnamdong 223-14 is fully in plain black and white, including the walls and floor, table and chairs, as well as the menu board. The entire space creates a 2D optical illusion.
We visited the cafe around 1 in the afternoon, so there wasnโt lots of people yet. You can see customers busy shooting photos around the cafe.
Before taking photos in the cafe, you are required to place an order. Each person has to order at least one menu (beverage/cake). The cafe provides menu catalogue in Korean and English, with the picture of the beverages.
The drinks are served in cups which designed to look like cartoons when photographed. They even put a green silicon lid to make the drink seems like dripping off the cup. It was cute!

We had green tea latte (5500 won), chocolate latte (5500 won), milk tea (5500 won), strawberry milk (5500 won) and cafe latte (5000 won). The drinks tasted good and the price is not that expensive, considering that the cafe is located in Yeonnam-dong, a newly trending area among youngsters. I strongly recommend you to give a try for the strawberry milk! The cafe also sells desserts like cakes and macarons.
Since we came in group of 5, we picked a seat in a separate room equipped with a big table. The windows are attached with holographic films.
