A guide to Sinsadong Garosu-gil

Located in Sinsadong (신사동), Garosu-gil is a fashionable and trendsetting area. It is known for upscale boutiques and trendy shops, cafes, restaurants and eateries. The name Garosu-gil (가로수길) means “tree lined street”. There are lots of ginkgo tress in area, and it is especially beautiful in autumn when the leaves of tree begin to fall. The foundation of Garosu-gil was started after different art galleries and popular clothing stores had moved into the area, as a result the Garosu-gil transformed into the “Designer Street.”

Garosu-gil is located between Sinsa and Apgujeong station in Gangnam.

What to see in Garosu-gil?

Beauty Shops

The area of Garosu-gil is full of shops. If you are a fan of Korean cosmetics, visit “Dr. Jart Flagship store”. The large store is famous for effective skincare formulas and the store looks like a lab, where you can try and purchase their products. Another popular makeup brand, “LOHB’s” (abbr. “Love, Health & Beauty Store”) is a new breed of H&B distribution brand, that provides beauty and health products to customers at a reasonable price. Or another beauty brand, “Aesop” is an Australian luxury beauty shop, that has a store in Garosu-gil. It offers skin, hair and body care formulations created with meticulous attention to detail, and with efficacy and sensory pleasure in mind. “3CE Cinema” is a popular movie-themed cosmetics store, that provides cosmetic stuffs, clothes, shoes, bags, accessories, etc.

Galleries and Museums

Garosu-gil is an interesting area for museums. For example, The “Simone Handbag Museum” consists of two floors and give an opportunity to explore the history of changing fashion cycles of handbags. Exhibits include the latest bags of the 21st century and handbags that date from 1500s. Another place, “Hot place museum”, offers various optical illusions and Augmented Reality (AR). It is a great place to hang out with friends or go on a date. There are a lot of amazing photo zones to make best shots. If you are interested in contemporary art, visit the “K Museum of Contemporary Art” place. They provide a high-quality source of visual art and create an exciting venue where artists can exhibit their art. Also, the museum provides some informative art programs and workshops for adults and children.

Another incredible place, “Gentle Monster” is Korea’s eye wear brand, consists of five floors. The first and second floors displays different varieties of eyeglasses collections, at third floor there is a showroom with a luxurious bathroom, and fourth and fifth floors are for resting and lounging.

Another Stores

If you are a fan of Line Friends, there is a large “Line Friends store & Café”, where you can find different stuffs like accessories, stuffed toys, phone cases, etc., related to the adorable Line characters. At the entrance there is always a queue with visitors, who want take a picture with a gigantic Brown. The Line Friends store consists of three floors and after exploring all stuffs you can have delicious dessert and drink at Line café.

“Artbox” is a cute shop, where you can find different fashion goods, home décor stuffs, phone accessories, office materials, stuffed toys, etc. It is a great place for shopping.

Also, Garosu-gil is a place, where the first apple store was opened in South Korea.

Where to have a cup of coffee?

C27 cheesecake & coffee

“C27 cheesecake & coffee” is a hot place at Garosu-gil, that serves 27 kinds of cheesecakes.

The large café consists of four floors, and has a beautiful interior. Be sure to prepare your camera or phone for amazing shots^^.

Actually the price is not cheap, but after trying their cheesecakes I thought it worth the money. The flavor of cheesecakes was really deep and impressive.

I definitely liked their cakes, drinks and atmosphere.

Basilur tea & coffee

“Basilur tea & coffee” is another popular café at Sinsadong.

The café is a two story building, that offers different types of hot and iced teas, non alcohol cocktails, coffees, cakes. We ordered “Very Berry Strawberry tea cocktail” and “Blueberry smoothie”.

Tea cocktail was refreshing, but a little bit sweet. The building has a terrace on the second floor with beautiful outside view. It is definitely a great place with lovely music and incredible interior. “Basilur tea & coffee” also sells the branded teas in tin cans.
