Haneul Park is located at the World Cup Park. It is the most famous out of five parks located there. If you’re reading this post, it means you’re trying to figure out how to get there and what is at Haneul Park? Long story short, for most people today, Haneul Park is more well known for its beautiful scenery and wide field.
Did you know Haneul Park started out as a landfill?
Fun facts about Haneul Park
- The best season to go is during autumn
- Haneul Park was initially a low flat land where sorghum and peanuts grew
- Huge amounts of garbage start filling the land turning it into a landfill
In 1993, it stopped operating as a garbage landfill. The Seoul Metropolitan Government saw its potential and gave the place a makeover. They decided to turn the place into an ecological park. Thanks to them, we are all able to enjoy Haneul Park in all its beauty today. This makes Haneul Park a great example of urban and ecological regeneration. Personally, this should be an example that other countries should take notes and learn from.
How to get there
Taking the subway would be the easiest way to get there.
Pro tip: wear comfortable shoes because you will be walking alot.
Use the kakao train app for this. You would want to set your destination as World Cup Stadium on app.
Let’s say you’re staying at Myeongdong, your train path would look like the map above. It would take approximately 35 minutes to and fro.
Once you reach the World Cup stadium, you exit at exit 1. Now, this is where you decide wether you want to take a bus until the top of Haneul Park or take 290 stairs up to the park.
When I went, I walked until the top, but it’s actually not that bad. You get to enjoy so many views walking there.
Just in case you prefer to take the bus, here’s how you can do it – From exit 1, turn right and go around the stadium. Follow the big road, turn left when you see the four way intersection, and cross to the other side. You will see a huge parking lot with a World Cup Park signage. There will be a shuttle bus that can take you up to Haneul Park.
Or, when you exit World Cup Stadium exit 1, click on this link naver.me/FkTsX0ce and use your Naver Map to that will take you to do World Cup Park. From there, you can take your shuttle bus.
If you prefer walking up there from the train station to enjoy the view, take out your Naver Map or Kakao Map, and click on this link below to take you to Haneul Park.
It will be quite a long walk though. According to the Naver map, it is approximately 40 minutes.

They also have an observatory there. The view up top is breathtaking. Here’s a video I took from the observatory:
You will also notice windmills there. There are about 5 windmills there that provide power to the park and the park’s maintenance office. Not only do you get a nice healing park, but it’s also eco friendly!
Overall, Haneul Park was a fun and healing experience. Best to enjoy during Autumn. There’s really no place like it.
