Korean springtime is famous worldwide for its period of beautiful flowers blossoming, especially the cherry blossoms. If you plan to come to Korea in spring this post was made just for you! Here I will give you some tips on how and where to enjoy the Korean spring at it’s best.

What to wear?
The weather in Korea during spring can get pretty crazy. It starts out kinda cold and very windy, which makes it feel like the weather is actually colder than what it really is. Especially if you are not used to cold weather, it can be kinda tricky to find the right clothes to wear. Sometimes the temperature can go from warm/hottish weather to 5 degrees in the blink of an eye, so you should be aware of that when packing your stuff to live the amazing Korean spring. I would recommend mostly thick overcoat and fresh clothes underneath it. Give preference to pants instead of shorts and skirts, because the wind is gonna blow hard on you.
When to go?
Best moment of Korean spring is during April and sometimes the beginning of May. From March to April is possible to see the transition from winter to spring: you see trees gaining life and colors, you see the start of flowers blooming, more birds singing on the streets – it almost feels like you are being teleported into a fairytale, since during winter trees are completely dry and have no leaves at all. If you come from a tropical country like me, you will understand better what I mean. In tropical countries we have green trees all year long, but here in Korea is the complete opposite: winter has kind of a mysterious vibe that completely changes to joyful during springtime.

I recommend that you plan your trip between the second half of April and the first half of May. That way much likely you will be able to see the star of the show: the worldwide famous cherry blossoms. But it’s always better to do some research before coming because it can be very unpredictable and it only lasts for around two to three weeks – sometimes even less. So be careful!
Cherry blossom time
As I mentioned before, the biggest star of Korean spring is the cherry blossom trees spread all over the country. In this post, I will talk a bit about cherry blossom trees here in Seoul. First off, as I mentioned as well, be careful to not lose it because it’s a very short season! Sometimes it lasts even less than two weeks, so you have to make the best out of your time. The fact that the weather is very windy during the cherry blossoms season helps to create a magical environment. You will be able to see petals flying around the city like it’s some kind of magic powder, spreading the marvelous perfume of the cherry blossoms. The city feels more alive and pretty during cherry blossoms time, and you want to be out all the time to enjoy it.

There are a lot of cherry blossoms trees literally everywhere you go, so it isn’t that hard to enjoy the Korean spring. You don’t have to go to specific places, but if you do trust me when I say your experience will be at least ten times better. Some places, like parks or bigger avenues, have the cherry blossom trees planted in a was specially made for it to create arches when they blossom, so it’s totally a must if you are looking for the best you can get from this beautiful season.
I would recommend parks like Seoul Forest and Yeouido Park. This last one has cherry blossom tree all over the neighborhood, so it’s amazing just getting off the subway to go to the park because you will experience the cherry blossom season right away. Of course, it’s a great place for pictures and you definitely don’t need much talent when taking pictures to capture the beauty of it all. The path to Yeouido Park has one of the most beautiful cherry blossom arches in Seoul, it feels just entering a truly magical place with all the white and pink beautiful cherry blossom trees.

Of course it’s not only the path to the park, but the park itself also has one of the most beautiful locations to check the cherry blossom season. It’s like a round lagoon surrounded by cherry blossom trees, and its petals fall on the water creating a scenario that looks like it just came out of your imagination because it’s too beautiful to believe it’s true. And apart from that small lagoon, the whole park has so many beautiful cherry blossom tree spots you will certainly not regret going there for a picnic during the best season in Seoul!
