In South Korea, you can get around easily, safe and sound with all the fundamental apps. And I want to make sure tourists get the best out of their trip. South Korea is well known for their advanced technology. Therefore, it’s not a surprise that you can do anything and everything just through the help of a few applications on your phone.
I really urge tourists, students or anyone going to South Korea to have these apps that I’m about to introduce. It will make your travelling smoother and saves you a lot of time.
1. SUBWAY APPS
You will be taking the subway often in Korea. It is the easiest and most convenient public transport in Korea. You can travel anywhere in Seoul and outside of Seoul with this. However, if it’s your first time in Korea, it can get a little bit intimidating to use. Worry no more, with the apps in this post, you will be travelling around Korea smoothly.

KakaoMetro. This app is available on both app stores for iOS users and Google Play stores for android users. Everything you need to know about the subway in Korea is all in this app.
You can conveniently select which station you are at, your destination, and it will automatically show you the route you should take.
Favourite feature
There is a ‘bell’ feature on this app that is often overlooked. It is a really useful function that helps you ease a little bit to keep track where you are with your destination.
It gives you a notification when you have one stop left before getting off or transferring.

Fast transfer numbers
Another pro tip to save yourself time when travelling the subway.

The numbers in the circle are fast transfer numbers. That means the section of the train that is located the closest to the exit. Look out for those numbers at sections of the train for convenience travel.
2. BUS & TAXI

The Kakao Taxi app is easy to use. You use it to call taxis anywhere anytime. The taxi fare will display immediately too as soon as you call for a taxi.

You can use this app to take buses conveniently around Korea.
It shows you the number of busses available at the specific bus stop to your destination and the arrival time of each buses.
3. FUNDAMENTAL TRAVEL APP

Map apps like Naver Map and Kakao Maps are the holy grail maps. Everything you need is in here. You can use this for subways, buses and walk on foot.
I always use this app for walk on foot directions to new places & it has saved me from getting lost.
They even give detailed guide for you to walk until your destination. Very useful.

You can use this app as a guide for cars, buses, on foot walk and even bicycles.
4. DISCOUNTS APPS
Let’s move on to where you can get discounts throughout your trip.
HOTEL DISCOUNTS

You might know a few apps on your own where you can get discounts, and this app isn’t common amongst tourists, but it is a really underrated app to get your hotel discounts.
The only setback is, it is only available in full Korean. Therefore it is more common amongst locals to use this. If you’re a student in Korea or someone who is living in Korea for a while and you know Korean, this is your app. It gives you the best discounts to enjoy.
Not to worry, there are plenty of other applications or websites that you can go to to look for your hotel discounts and compare prices.
ALL – IN DISCOUNT APP
This next app is all language friendly.
It is called Klook.

This app not only shows you hotel discounts but it also offers tourist attractions discount. Definitely an app that you should give a try.
