Namsan Tower or N Seoul Tower is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Korea. It was built in 1969 as Korea’s first integrated transmission tower. It was first opened for the public in 1980. Since then it has become one of the most popular landmarks of Seoul. Almost every traveler to Korea visits this place.

I had visited the Tower during day time as well as in the evening. The view of Seoul from Namsan tower has different charms during day and evening.

The best view of Seoul can be seen from the 360-degree Observatory. The observatory is not open but a glass one. In the night time, you might have difficulty in getting good shots because of glass reflection. Nevertheless, the view is spectacular. You can see lightened up Seoul, tall buildings, and Hangang river flowing through the middle of Seoul. You can also see the splendid view from the mountain itself and without going to observatory. However, there is no comparison to the view from Observatory.

If you are a K- Drama lover, you must have seen lead actors securing padlocks in some dramas. That place is none other than the Namsan Tower. This is situated on the second floor of the Namsan Tower. Securing Padlocks with loved ones symbolizes eternal love. Couples can customize their love padlock and after securing padlock throws away the key. This has become a popular activity among foreign tourists as well.
The padlocks at Namsan Tower can be quite costly so it is better to bring one with you.

There are various restaurants and cafes at the Namsan tower with a romantic atmosphere. If you are visiting with your loved ones, you can dine there with a beautiful view of Seoul. It is advisable to make the reservation in advance.
Fun Fact- Lighting of Tower
The color of the Namsan Tower changes according to the level of pollution. If the pollution level is high it turns into red. If the pollution level is low it is green and if it is somewhere in between then it is blue in color. Other than these three colors of Namsan Tower, it has been also lightened up as purple to celebrate BTS, a famous K-Pop Boy Group’s anniversary this year and last year.
Some tips
- Avoid visiting the tower on the weekend because it is too much crowded. To be honest, it is always crowded, but weekends bring much more crowd.
- If you are riding the cable car, expect long waiting hours in the evening.
- Bring your own padlock if you plan to secure one at the tower. Padlocks are quite expensive here.

Reaching There
There are three ways to reach the Namsan tower. Choose which is more convenient and suitable for you.
- Cable Car- Get down at Myeongdong Subway station. Walk around 10 minutes and you will see cable car stop. You can reserve a one-way ticket or return ticket.
- Shuttle Bus- You can get into Namsan Circular Shuttle Bus number 02 or 04.
- Hiking- If you are testing out your stamina, you can hike up to Namsan Tower.
