If you enjoy spending time in Itaewon, visiting unique cafes, and eating delicious donuts, I encourage you to visit Old Ferry Donut. It is, without a doubt, my favorite donut shop in Seoul. Their pastries demonstrate an impressive level of artistry and craft. I suggest you discover and visit this venue now, before it becomes so popular that you have trouble finding a seat!
Getting There
To reach Old Ferry Donut, take Line 6 to Hangangjin Station. Once you arrive, leave via Exit 3. From there, you will see a long staircase, as pictured below. Be careful walking down. I nearly tripped! Once you reach the bottom, take a sharp right and walk along this street until you see a placard for Old Ferry Donut to your left. From there, walk up to the second floor.
If you exit one stop earlier, at Itaewon Station, you can walk to the donut shop. It takes some time, but in doing so you will manage to see more of Itaewon and a number of additional shops, cafes, and bars worth visiting. All in all, that is a fantastic area. It is, put simply, an area in which I am more than happy to get lost in.
Atmosphere
This cafe is quite small, but offers a nice view of the sky outside and the surrounding neighborhood. Admittedly, it is not the easiest place in which to engage in quiet conversation. This is because the baristas play music loudly. If this is bothersome to you, I recommend you find seating on the balcony, just outside the entrance. There are miniature chairs and tables that, on a nice day, make for a pleasant seating space. The cafe, as can be seen in the photos below, is nicely decorated. You can even purchase Old Ferry Donut t-shirts!
Menu
As you order, youโll observe a choice of eight delicious donut types. Among these: creme brulee, apple cinnamon, peanut butter, tiramisu, raspberry, and choco monkey. I highly recommend the latter two as these are my favorites. These are also the two I ordered on my most recent visit. I supplemented this snack order with a nice Kusume Tea. A friend of mine enjoyed the Salted Caramel Latte. As I understand it, both beverages comes highly recommended.
The raspberry donut, as pictured below, is incredibly sweet. Thatโs certainly something to be aware of before visiting and ordering. I have visited plenty of cafes in Korea, and I have found most pastries to be on the sweet side. This is true of Old Ferry donuts, and exceptionally so. I took one-third of my donut home and saved it for the next day. Nevertheless, it was incredibly delicious.
In Closing
Old Ferry Donut is a fantastic spot to spend an hour relaxing with friends and enjoying delicious donuts. Before or after you enjoy your snack and beverage, check out the neighborhood. There are many other hidden gems worth checking out: restaurants, coffee shops, and bars. I look forward to going back.
