If you are going to visit Seoul, having a cafe experience is one of the interesting activities that should not be missed! As we all know, Seoul is a city that is well-known for its cafe culture. It is quite impossible to come across a street that doesnโt home any cafes.
Cafes in Korea
The incredibly large number of coffee shops in Korea is mainly due to the high consumption of coffee. According to a study, each adult in Korea consumes approximately 353 cups of coffee a year, which is 2.7 times bigger than the global average of 132 cups a year.

One of the reasons that I am truly amazed with the cafes in Korea is that none of the cafe is common- everything is wonderful here. As we know, it is not easy to run a cafe. Since there are numerous cafes popping up here and there on every street, there must be some uniqueness and specialities present in the cafe so that customers would choose to visit the place.
What is the Korean Cafe Culture?
Cafes in Korea are more than places just for coffee but a part of people’s social life culture. Cafes offer a cozy environment for relaxing, as well as a quiet place to escape from the busy life. I visit cafes almost every time I have gatherings with friends. Spending time in a cafe is no doubt one of the best ways to enjoy the little moments.
Besides, cafes also play an important role in the study culture of Korea. Cafes become a popular place to study due to the calm environment, which is similar to what you’d find in a library but with less pressure. Just like me, I would always visit a cafe alone when my mid-terms and finals are around the corner.
Cafe Recommendation
์ ๋์ค๋(addand)
Addand is a cafe located in Konkuk University area, which is also known as Kondae.
The menu of addand cafe is being displayed on a tablet. All at a student-friendly price!
We ordered a hot flat white, ice vanilla latte, ice soft mugwort latte and a strawberry scone.
It was my first time trying out a mugwort latte. I couldnโt really describe how does it taste, sort of bitter and a bit nutty(?)
The strawberry scone has a slightly crispy crust with a soft and sweet strawberry jam inside.
The cafe is not very big but customers are given their own private space as independent space is created with walls and blinds.
There are photo zones all over the place. The cafe is no doubt a perfect place for your Instagrammable photos.
The yellow lightings used in the cafe give the interior design a sophisticated look. Antique furniture such as cupboards and table lamps can be found here as well.
I am totally in love with the vintage vibe, the cafe gives off cozy vibes. Overall, I spent good times here.
I would say Seoul has a lot to see and do in terms of cafe cultures. No doubt, Seoul is a city that every coffee lover should visit at least in their lifetime.
