Located in North Jeolla Province of South Korea which also is known as Jeonbuk where is famous with beautiful nature in all four seasons, is famous with abundant heritage sites and food, Gunsan, so close to Jeonju, is a city that has an interesting history. Coming to visit Gunsan, you will can understand more about the late modern period through visiting modern period historical spots, experiencing wearing old style student uniform and tasting delicious food.

Gunsan modern historical museum ๊ตฐ์ฐ๊ทผ๋์ญ์ฌ๋ฐ๋ฌผ๊ด
Before heading to Gusan modern historical museum, letโs pass by The Food Station nearby. If you didnโt have breakfast yet or want to drink something, you can come here. They serve coffee and drinks, waffles, dak-gangjeong (sweet crispy Korean fried chicken), burger and ice cream.
Around the museum, there are also many buildings since modern period.
Before coming in and visiting the modern historical museum, you need to leave your drink outside. They have a drink table for visitors to leave their drinks.
The museum has three floors that each of them has its own them. The first floor is the Maritime logistics museum that display the maritime life of Gunsan in the past. The second floor is exhibition.

The third floor is the most interesting floor that includes children experience center and recreation of Gunsan city. It is a space that reproduces the image of the people of Gunsan who lived a fierce life without giving up even under the pressure of Japanese imperialism. Each directing space looks like Gunsan in the 1930s with a little shoes and alcohol store, an old class, old street so that you will understand more about this period. You can also try wearing school uniform for free here.

Chowon photo studio ์ด์์ฌ์ง๊ด
There are some old photo studios here but Chowon studio is of the most visited studio here. You can understand how they took picture during the late modern period by coming here. You will find some old background that they used to use in the past. The picture that you take here will definitely looks like an old photo from style to background. The owner of this studio is so kind and friendly. She helps visitors to take photo and also will help you to understand more about this modern period street.

Lee Sung Dang bakery ์ด์ฑ๋น
Lee Sung Dang bakery is known as the oldest bakery in South Korea. The first bakery was born in Gunsan since 1945 so that itโs so famous and there are so many people come here to buy breads, cakes or cookies. Thatโs the reason why the waiting people line is so long.

When walking from Chowon photo studio to Sinheungdong Japanese house, you will pass by this famous bakery so donโt forget to take a look and maybe buy your favorite bread. Itโs really delicious.

Sinheungdong-Japanese House ๊ตฐ์ฐ ์ ํฅ๋ ์ผ๋ณธ์๊ฐ์ฅ(ํ๋ก์ฐ ๊ฐ์ฅ)

Itโs a well preserved Japanese style house in Gunsan. Itโs not allowed to come inside the house but visitors are free to roam around the garden and outside of the house. This house is not so big and it will take you around 20 minutes to look around and to take photos.

On the way to Japanese house, you will discover so many cute coffee shop and unique handmade stores.

Lunch: Raw seafood marinated in soy sauce
Jjaebo ์งธ๋ณด์๋น is not a big restaurant but still famous and is one of the should-try restaurant in Gusan. Itโs not only famous to tourists but also to people here. If you donโt book a table before you may need to wait. The waiters will ask you the menu that you want to choose then they will note it and call you later when they have table for you. Anyways, don’t worry! Waiting time is not wasted because food is delicious and look so nice.

Gyeongamdong Railroad Town ๊ฒฝ์๋ ์ฒ ๊ธธ๋ง์

This railroad was built to connect the station and the post but it was abandoned after Japanese colonial era. Nowadays it was redesigned to become a sight and itโs becoming a popular spot in Gunsan.
Gyeongamdong railroad is like a magical railroad that brings you back to the past. You can rent an old style school uniform then walk around to explore this area. And one great thing is that wearing school uniform will make you look younger.
