Han River (한강)
Han river or Hangang is the main river flowing through the city of Seoul to the Yellow Sea, dividing the city north and south. This river is the most important symbol of the city for its beautiful nature and historical value. When visiting Seoul, it’s hard to miss the Han River lined with parks that make it the perfect place to rent bikes, go on cruise by the river, enjoy bird-watching. Moreover having romantic picnic during the summer months and enjoy the cherry blossom festival during spring months.
A brief history
Since the ancient times of Joseon Dynasty Han River has been a valuable river for transportation of trade with China and other countries. However the river is no longer actively used for navigation. Because of its located at the borders of the two Koreas. Geographical fact about Han River is that it is 494 kilometre in length and 2.5 meters in depth. There are also several islands in the river, such as Yoido located within the city.
