Udo island is an island 15-minutes ferry trip away the main island of Jeju. If you think Jeju island is not enough to get away from the modern life, then you should try going to Udo island. As the small island preserve the tradition and nature, even Korean locals of Jeju have made Udo island one of their getaway destinations. I went there in the winter, but in my opinion, it is much better to go there in the warmer seasons if you have the chance.
If you plan to make a day-trip to Udo Island, it might be possible if the schedule of the ferry is available. However, I recommend staying there overnight, so that you can enjoy the island much more relaxed (it is a getaway island anyway!), and here are my recommendations to have a 2-day trip in Udo Island.
How to go to Udo Island
One way ferry ticket to Udo island is 4,500 won, and round-trip is 8,000 won, and try to catch the early morning schedules. Being a secluded island, it is recommended that you rent a car once you get off the ferry, as the island doesn’t have public transportations. Here are the map links for the locations of the ferry harbors and a rental car nearby the port in Udo island. I recommend using Kakaomap app for this trip, as it’s one of the most reliable apps for the public transportations in Jeju island.

Day 1
1. Black Sand Beach
This beach is unique, not only because the sand is black, but also the fact that the beach is surrounded by cliffs that it makes the view is so nice. Here, you can enjoy the nice view of the cliffs, or explore a little further away from the entrance to have a mini adventure into a small cave. There are also people selling some fresh seafood if you’re feeling a bit hungry. However, if youre not interested, go back up to the road to find small shops and restaurants. If you happen to see a peanut-flavored ice cream, you might want to give it a try since it was so hyped up. That area also have some lodging if you are interested to stay in that area.

2. Coral Beach
This beach looks totally different from the previous one. First, the color of the ambiance is much lighter that the previous beach, which is much lighter because the sands were made from crushed corals. The color of the sea is one of the most beautiful ones I see so far in Korea. In the warmer season, the beach is available for swimming and you can see a lot of people chilling there.

3. Café Gyul
After spending time outdoors, it’s always nice to just relax in a nice café. This café has a really well decorated that it is quite unbelievable that such nice café is located in a small island. One of their specialty drink is the peanut coffee, which I think you should try since their peanut flavor is famous on the island. If you take a seat on the second floor, you can enjoy your coffee while looking at the sea through the big glass windows. Don’t stay too long at the café, because it’s better to enjoy sunset at another place that I will tell you next.

4. Biyangdo Island
Yes, you read it right. There is ANOTHER island? Yup, Biyangdo island is an even smaller island attached to Udo island, but it is connected by the road so you can just use your car to get there. Biyangdo island is sacred holy place where the women divers of Jeju (Haenyeo) prays. The sunset there is amazing that you can enjoy a true beauty view of Udo island. In warmer season, you can even set up camps there.

Day 2
5. Udobong Hill
This hill is stunning! You can explore a lot of beautiful spots including a tower/light house. Too bad I was there in the winter, so the wind was quite torturing. If you have the chance to come in a warmer season, do go up the hill to see the magnificent view. The hill is the highest point in Udo, and you can enjoy Udobong the spectacular views of Jeju’s famous volcanic crater, Seongsanilchulbong. I recommend to visit this place in the morning so you can catch a schedule to ride the ferry back to main island of Jeju. If you are interested, there are horses you can ride (for the experience, though, not to climb up the hill.. hehehe).
