When visiting South Korea, most people tend to think about places like Seoul, Jeju Island, and Busan. But have you heard about Incheon? I’m sure you know one of the largest airports in South Korea is in Incheon. But have you thought about Incheon as a place for sightseeing? Incheon is a great place to visit, during both summer and winter. Either for its varied options of things to do, either for the very beautiful landscapes that you can see by just walking. I visited Incheon with some friends during summer, and in this post I would like to introduce that beautiful place to you. Today I will be introducing the Wolmido Island!
How to get there
First off, getting to Incheon is very easy, once you can just go by subway (the last station of line blue). Most of the sightseeing spots in Incheon are close to each other, so you can just walk around from one spot to another. To get to the small islands around Incheon you will need to take a bus, but don’t worry too much! It’s easy, safe, and cheap to get wherever you want. Besides, locals are very warm-hearted and will help you with whatever information you need. Even if you don’t speak Korean, you can be sure that they will try their best to communicate with you. This was one of the very best things about Incheon!
To get to Wolmido all you need to take is a bus, and it takes around 15 minutes. It’s very fast, and it has a very cheap fee (1,250 won if you have a T-money). Once you get to Wolmido Island, you will already sense the good smell of a beach city! Even the breeze feels different in the pretty Wolmido Island. I went there just to see the sea – people say that the prettiest view of the sea in Incheon Islands is from Wolmido, so I and my friends went there to check – spoiler alert: it is true! But Wolmido Island is much more than just a beautiful view of the sea. Here I will walk you through my amazing day in Wolmido.
Pier

As soon as you get to Wolmido, one of the first things you see is the pier where you can go and see the sea. They also have these famous signs with the name of the city where you can take really nice pictures, either for Instagram or just for keeping the memory. The Incheon sign was especially cute, with all the characters smiling. Also, the fact that you can see the sea behind it gives out really good vibes. This is one of my favorite signs with city names among the ones I visited. Wolmido is a very hot place during the summer, so make sure to prepare yourself before coming. I recommend you to take a hand fan and a cap if it’s sunny when you go. Don’t forget the sunscreen! It’s kinda hard to find pharmacies in Wolmido, so take your stuff from home.
Amusement Parks
Wolmido Island has two amusement parks. If you like Korean dramas, you have probably seen both of them in some scenes! One of the latest Netflix dramas, Extracurricular, has some recorded scenes on these parks. Differently from the amusement parks in Seul, you don’t need to buy your ticket in advance or pay for entrance, you can check the attractions for free, and if you want to go on a ride the price is between 5,000 and 6,000 won. If you want to try them all, you can buy a ticket to go on all the attractions. If you speak some Korean, a few of the attractions will a hell of an experience! The staff of the parks usually make pranks and jokes with the costumers who are riding some attractions. It’s also very fun to watch.

Where to eat?
Wolmido offers you a lot of great places to eat, including the delicious Korean street food: corn dog, tteokbokki, so-tteok so-tteok, spiral french fries, and more. The street food is delicious, but since most of it is deep-fried, be careful to no exaggerate. You can also choose one of the restaurants that face the sea. Obviously, most of your options will be seafood, but you can also find basic pasta dishes in some bingsu shops. By the way, bingsu is a must try when you are visiting the beach in Korea! Bingsu is a popular Korean shaved ice dessert with sweet toppings. That may include chopped fruit, condensed milk, fruit syrup, cookies like oreo, red beans, and much more. Koreans get really creative when it comes to Bingsu.
I hope that you are now ready to visit the amazing and beautiful Wolmido Island! Try attractions at the amusement parks; take a walk at the pier and enjoy the view of the sea; rest while eating delicious bingsu and street food.
